Cricket 07 browser loading, editions and black-screen help

Understand Cricket 07 browser Regular vs. Lite startup downloads, OPFS caching, and black-screen fixes.

All guides →

What downloads on your first session

When you click Play in the Cricket 07 browser player, you choose between two startup packages before any game files are transferred:

  • Regular Edition (740 MB compressed startup): Downloads the 30.6 MB WebAssembly runtime plus 11 archive files (~848 MB unpacked in OPFS) including full match commentary and soundtrack. Another 25 .vp6 broadcast video files (~321 MB) stream quietly in the background after the game starts.
  • Lite Edition (438 MB compressed startup): Downloads the runtime plus 9 essential archive files (~515 MB unpacked in OPFS), omitting voice commentary and extra menu music so you can enter a Cricket 07 match much faster.

One-time OPFS extraction and instant repeat boots

Each downloaded chunk is decompressed via DecompressionStream('gzip') and written to your browser’s Origin Private File System (/opfs/c07game). Once all startup files pass size verification, future visits to cricket-07.org on the same browser profile skip the download and launch Cricket 07 directly from local disk in seconds.

If the screen stays black or stalls

Read the progress status inside the Cricket 07 browser viewport. Keep the browser tab visible in the foreground during initial extraction, use an updated desktop Chrome or Edge browser, and ensure hardware acceleration is enabled so WebGPU (_c07_gpu_init) can initialize the 3D renderer.

Clear downloaded files without losing saves

If an archive download is interrupted and you want to rebuild the game cache, open Player options and click Clear downloaded files. This clears the service-worker cache and /opfs/c07game game files while preserving your /opfs/userdata solo saves. Note that using your browser’s global “Clear site data” setting will delete both game files and saves.

Browser requirements and OPFS storage behavior follow the WebGPU and WebAssembly runtime architecture. Check this player’s keyboard layout and the in-game control settings before practicing.
